Nights of Cabiria, (Le notti di Cabiria) 1957, Italian film directed by Federico Fellini and starring his wife Giulietta Masina as the prostitute Cabiria Ceccarelli.

Belle Du Jour, 1967, French film directed by Luis Buñuel. The film stars Catherine Deneuve as a woman who decides to spend her days as a prostitute while her husband is at work.

Mona Lisa, 1986, British film directed by Neil Jordan  about a petty criminal who becomes entangled in the dangerous life of a high-class call girl. Starring Bob Hoskins and Cathy Tyson.

The Goddess, 1934, Chinese silent film directed by Wu Yonggang.  The film tells the story of a nameless young woman played by Ruan Lingyu living in Shanghai as a prostitute, trying to support herself and her son.

La Balance, 1982, French film directed by Bob Swaim and starring Nathalie Baye as the Paris streetwalker, Nicole.

Requiem for a Dream, 2000, directed by Darren Aronofsky. A poignant and tragic film depicting forms of addiction and starring Jennifer Connelly as Marion Silver a girl who becomes a prostitute and performs in sex shows to support her drug habit.

Les Dames du Bois de Boulogne, 1945, French film directed by Robert Bresson. It is a modern adaptation of a section of Denis Diderot’s Jacques le fataliste (1796), telling the story of a man who is tricked into marrying a former prostitute.

Roma, 1972, Italian film directed by Frederico Fellinni. Includes two memorable Brothel scenes.
